Story
Among the major challenges facing Muslims today is the need to revitalise our places of worship. Women’s representation on governance structures is nonexistent, & access is the biggest problem that female worshippers face. Gender segregated spaces, which are how many UK mosques are traditionally structured, are dated & unwelcoming.
Muslim women have been marginalised for many decades by mosques in the UK.This has led to a frustration amongst women who'd like to be included in religious spaces.
Our vision is to create a space for communities demonstrating how women can lead and be included in places of worship, impacting positively on their families and communities. We want a space that is fully accessible to all (Muslims and non Muslims) and welcome all schools of thought; a safe space for women and a centre for learning and promoting shared values.
The mosque will be based on the principles of openness, inclusivity, social justice and sanctuary.
