Story
My name is Woody. I'm a little foal. My story starts in the long hot days of June 2018, when I was born into a little heaven at the Woodfield Animal Sanctuary, cared for by my mother Willow, who is with me in the picture. My mum didn't have such a happy story. When she was found, pregnant with me, she was at the slaughterhouse, days from being killed while carrying me, along with a large herd of heavily pregnant mares. They were all saved and brought here.

I'm a strong young boy now, growing every day, and my mum and I will live out our days here.
This little foal hiding in the next picture, between two mums, is my good friend, Blaze.

His mum is the one on the right, who was very seriously ill when she arrived at Woodfield. The photo was taken just before she passed away. She is nuzzling her friend, Julie, as if she is asking her to look after her very young Blaze.
Minutes after she died, Julie walked over to Blaze, and has taken care of him from that day on, she has a filly foal as well, but never lets Blaze out of her sight.

We all live happily at the Woodfield, along with our friends the lambs, the dogs and cats. Most have been rescued from terrifying places.
But we all need your help. Our rescuers are a husband and wife team, Robbie and David, who are self-funding the sanctuary, and they are quickly running out of money. The latest vet and hay bill needs to be paid, and it's already £3000. There are 70 of us in total, and there are big bills to pay every month.
They haven't got time to stop their hard work, even though they are retired now and should be slowing down. Once, more than 20 arrived horses arrived in one night! Some have had road accidents, some were orphan foals. Once, two ponies who were actually dragged out of lakes came to Woodfield to be carefully nursed back to life.
There's a lot of love and hope here, but also worry that we will not be able to make the vet bills or pay for our feed or homes in the future.
That's why we need you. Even a small donation would go a long way, especially if you could set it up to run monthly, so we knew there was an income to rely on. The Woodfield is not-for-profit. and every penny donated will be spent on rescuing mums like mine from slaughter, or helping orphan foals like Blaze find a new mum.
It's the most important thing in the world for us to grow up and know safety. Please be part of that future.
Little velvet-nose nuzzles and love
Woody xxx

Roberta Bartington
Swansea born Robbie and her husband David decided to retire to Gower from Hertfordshire in search of what they thought would be a quieter life.... But since then, they have rescued a never ending stream of horses and other animals, arriving often in quite large numbers.
