Story

Woodland Nook Cat Rescue, Swanwick is an incredible place. Run by the wonderful Jane Lynegar it gives warmth, food, shelter and a lot of love to cats and kittens that would otherwise be left to fend for themselves out in the streets. The shelter has been going for 26 years and relies completely on donations and fundraising to keep it going.

With the pandemic having an impact on us all many of the usual fundraising efforts such as summer fayres and the annual calendar did not happen so the shelters funds are much depleted.

The shelter is currently undergoing extensive repairs as the shelter has undertaken many years of UK rain and is suffering from substantial damp issues as you can see below. Initial costs were estimated in the region of £5000. Now that work has commenced and the builders have begun phase 1 of the repairs it has been discovered that the damage is even worse than expected and the cost of repair is more likely to be £15k.

Whilst there are still restrictions in place this is the ideal time for the work to happen and the builders have made a great start but with the depleted funds this is a difficult time. Jane takes several phone calls a day asking her to rehome cats & kittens but without a fully functioning shelter this is an impossible ask.

I am hoping that you will join me in raising some much needed funding to help this wonderful place to continue its fantastic work. I have rehomed two gorgeous kittens from the Nook and have met many more. Jane and her volunteers work tirelessly to turn sometimes feral unloved unhealthy cats into the perfect pet ready to be rehomed. Any donation no matter how small would be greatly received. It will all contribute to helping the cats and kittens of the future receive the love and care they deserve.

The kitten in the above photo was found locally by a woman walking her dog. The kitten had been placed in a dog poo bag with dog poo that had been tied up tightly and placed in a carrier bag and then into the council dog poo bin. This is the kind of hideous people and level of cruelty we are dealing with. It was only because the woman’s dog heard the kitten whimpering that it was found. If the shelter isn‘t completed then Jane will not be able to continue her fabulous rescue work. Please help and give generously xx
