Story

Coronavirus is going to devastate communities in the UK. In Northumberland, the county day celebration, Northumberland Day, is seeking to maintain a spirit of inclusion and belonging amongst those most affected by quarantine and self-isolation, by creating a community knitting project that will literally knit communities together.

Quite simply, we wish to raise money for wool - red & yellow wool, specifically, and lots of it, so whether confined to home, kept out of school, or self-isolating, anybody can knit something to celebrate Northumberland Day 2020. We are aiming to be the first ever virtual county day and we wish to create this project so that all can be uplifted by the bright, bold county colours that we hope will hang in knitted items across the county. We truly want to create some joy for those who look out of their windows on Northumberland Day 2020 (May 24th) or the week around it, because we know they will be having a tough time. Please help us to do that and work with us to get this wool out to those who can occupy their time and employ their creativity to do something with it.

Wool can be our thread. We can knit Northumberland communities - not forgetting those in Newcastle who feel Northumbrian - together, but only with your help.
