Story

In 2018, after finding out about the imminent closure of the veggie cafe on Museum Street, a group of friends and cafe staff started the Museum Street Worker's Co-op in a bid to save the business from closure and to collectively continue running Ipswich's oldest vegetarian cafe.

Today the legacy of museum street is re-emerging in an exciting new collaboration with a local community space.

After a successful two months at the helm of Museum Street, and running our really fun pop up cafe for SPILL, disaster had struck and we received a definitive no to our proposal to continue the lease from the building's owner.

So we embarked on a fruitless journey, searching high and low for a suitable new venue, viewing every vacant property in Ipswich, haggling with landlords, harrassing estate agents...to no success.

We were eventually forced to put our plans for the new co-op cafe on hold, and to find other jobs to finance our rock and roll lifestyles.

And after what seems like such a long wait... (for those that haven't had the chance to scoff Museum Street daal in nearly a year, it really has has been!) we have finally found our new home in the centre of Ipswich.

We will be announcing the exact location at the start of July, when we will also invite all our loyal regular customers and contributors to a big party to celebrate the move.

Contribute today and enable us to continue serving excellent quality vegan and veggie food, to continue the legacy of the Museum Street cafe and to host & support countless local projects, including those in progress in our very own cafe- a resident food bank, hygiene bank, community bike kitchen, soup kitchen outreach & a free community library service.

To show our thanks:

We will be giving our first ten donators a unique hand turned cherrywood coffee spoon as a small token of our thanks. We'll be getting in touch after the fundraiser is over to get these out to you.

Where your money is going:

We are primarily raising funds to cover the legal costs of registering as a Worker's Co-operative and applying for membership with the Radical Routes network, which is an essential final step before we begin trading. We have outstanding costs associated with our previous work on SPILL, which will be covered with the remaining funds. Just a tiny bit further to go until we can open our doors!

Any excess money raised will be donated to local charity Homehub and our food bank. Homehub at St Michaels provides the homeless and rough sleeping community with food and other services, for more information on Homehub, our ongoing projects or costs or plans, please get in touch at museumstreetworkerscoop@gmail.com
