Story

Weymouth and Portland Rugby Club are running the distance of 1000miles over March to raise funds for both our club and Weldmar Hospice.

Over 20 senior players, from all shapes and sizes, some small and some not so small, will be taking to the road every other day to run 5km or to the total of 64miles as a team. This will be a gruelling task over the month for our boys, most of which would be quick to tell you they “aren’t built for running“ 😳.

Like all community rugby clubs across the country, W&PRFC has been heavily effected by COVID and its financial ramifications. The club relies entirely on its paying members and also the revenue taken in the clubhouse on matchdays, private functions and events held throughout the year, all of which having been suspended due to COVID. The funds raised will be used to complete vital maintence and upkeep of the clubhouse.

W&PRFC has a strong personal link to Weldmar and the fantastic work they do, as A beloved former first team captain received end of life care from the charity. The charity relies heavily on community support, with only 21% funding provided by the NHS and 79% from community support and fundraising. Fundraising for the charity is now more important than ever with all charities struggling with funding due to COVID.

Please support us in any way you can, all donations is greatly appreciated 😃.
