Story
I invite you to donate or take part in Wrestle for Humanity (WFH)'s 2021 fundraising challenge that will give hope & help to people like my friend David Wellington who is facing huge adversity in life. Watch his inspiring story here:
David's Story
According to his doctors, it’s a miracle that David is alive. David was at his usual exercise class when he collapsed and ended up in Intensive Care with sepsis (infection of the blood). Within a week he was fighting for his life.
He spent 10 months in hospitaI during which time he suffered two strokes, Iost 60% of his body movement and had both legs and seven fingers amputated.
David's Goal
David is out of hospital now, and faces a long and difficult journey as he adapts to life as a double amputee. He hopes to walk again, regain his movement & be able to play with his 4 year old child but many things that we take for granted - from leaving the house to having a shower - are difficult and the solutions cost money. HaIf of your donations will go directly to David to help him adapt.
Essential Therapy
David's recovery depends on his ability to feel good enough to do his exercises consistently. He also needs bespoke physical, psychological and practical support on his journey back to health.
David has lost many neural pathways and has to relearn basic movement patterns. Under supervision of physiotherapist James Ross, we are doing movement therapy that is ‘feel based’ - see video - which helps with David’s neural development and his motivation, as well as providing a potential therapy model for others.
This therapy has huge potential. I've rarely seen progress this quick. Wrestling is 3D movement, which you really only see in dance, combining that with Saeid's therapeutic teaching methods makes David feel safe to move through a progressive range of motion
Access for All
The other half of your donation wiII help us to provide inclusive, accessible, and safe facilities. These along with disability-adapted transport & free coaching and therapies will be life-changing for David & others in need.
The impact of Covid on our mental, physical and economic wellbeing means that the need for sports-based interventions and access to mental health services is greater than ever.
The club has improved the physical and emotional wellbeing of many of its students enabling them to achieve their full potential in athletic performance and in life. But to continue, we need your help so we can help others.
