West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service Charity Fire Engine Pull
A group of West Sussex trainee firefighters will be attempting to raise money for good causes when they take on a charity Fire Engine Pull on 1st December 2017.
The 12 recruits, who began an intensive 14-week training course to become full time community firefighters in September, will be aiming to pull a 12 ton Fire Engine over a distance of 4 miles.
The event will be held at Ford Airfield from on Friday December 1st with the challenge set to begin at 1pm. The event is being staged to raise money for the Firefighters Charity.
Course Commander Keith Parvin said "There is a longstanding tradition of trainee firefighters raising money for a charity to mark their commitment to a career serving their community. Our new recruits are very keen to continue this tradition. We now need the public to get behind this challenge and help our trainee firefighters raise as much money as possible for sick and injured firefighters”.
Just how heavy is a fire engine?
The fire engine the firefighters will pull weighs 13.5 tons which is roughly the same weight as:
• Three fully grown African elephants
• 17 x the weight of the England rugby pack
• 165 firefighters
• More than £1.3 million in pound coins
