Engineering has a massive impact on the environment, with electronic waste (e-waste) being particularly damaging. In 2018, the amount of e-waste produced globally grew to around 49.8 million tonnes. Left unchecked, this could more than double to 120 million tonnes by 2050.
E-waste results in dangerous toxins being leaked into the air and water, damaging the environment and posing a risk to wildlife along with our own health.
Working in electronics myself, I feel a particular responsibility for this. Hence, I am raising money for the WWF to support them in conserving our environment and wildlife along with helping to address and combat threats such as e-waste.
I am fundraising through a variety of ways, including local events and culiminating with embarking on a trek through Machu Picchu all in order to raise money for the World Wide Fund (WWF) for Nature. I believe we all have a responsibility to protect endangered species and spaces including addressing global threats to the planet such as climate change - this is the mission of the WWF.
WWF is at the heart of global efforts to address the world’s most important environmental challenges: safeguarding the natural world, tackling climate change and enabling people to use only their fair share of natural resources. Together we can build a future where people and nature thrive. Your support is much appreciated. Find out more by visiting wwf.org.uk
