Story

Firstly, thankyou for clicking on our page and listening to us.

We are James Moore, Amelia Davies, Stuart Meese and Amy Lowe, apprentices from Telford working together to raise funds for an important trip to Gambia in support of WYCE.

We will be volunteering in Madina Salaam for a week in November, a village located in The Gambia to visit the charity to provide our support and services on many ongoing projects. We will be helping in a range of different places from a school to clinics, the village shop to building sites. We will also run many interactive community events, such as football matches, other sporting activities, craft sessions, interactive classroom lessons for primary school children and many more.

The charity aims to sustainably improve the quality of life in the village by providing much needed facilities such as running water, power, food and school equipment, but also training local people to know how to maintain them. This requires volunteers such as ourselves to not only actively raise money and awareness, but to travel to the community itself and get our hands dirty. So far, this includes everything from a running school and successful health clinic to small businesses like the local bakery and a bike repair workshop. The more that we raise, the more projects that we will be able to fund and the bigger a difference we can make to the community.

WYCE currently provide:

- A school place and 1 hot meal for over 500 children from 4+

- A health clinic that treat around 3,000 patients and deliver around 50 babies a year.

- Employment and training for local villagers

- Income generating projects such as a bike workshop, bee farm, bakery and many more.

During our trip, we will visit and organise the maintenance of these projects, and get involved with whatever is required. It's important we do our bit and raise awareness for this amazing charity, so that in the future, Madina Salaam can be self sustainable and keep its wonderful community afloat.

We will be planning on running multiple fundraising events/activities throughout the year to promote our efforts and raise as much as possible for this amazing charity.

Thank you for your support.

James, Amelia, Stuart and Amy.
