    Story

A small group of Chelmsford City fans are planning to continue their exploits of the past few years and walk from North Wales, to Hemel Hempstead, in time to see the fixture between Chelmsford City and Hemel Hempstead on 22nd April.

We will be starting with a climb up Yr Wyddfa (that's Mount Snowdon to you and me), before passing through Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, Stratford Upon Avon, Banbury, Aylesbury and finally arriving at Hemel in time for the game.

We will be setting off on Saturday 15th and aiming to cover a total of 244 miles, carried out in relay between the walkers each day. This year we have decided to raise funds for Mates. This is an Essex based mental health support group formed in 2018. The founder had spent years watching a good friends health decline through depression and anxiety, and felt helpless and powerless to aid properly. He set up MATES, aimed to arrange weekly sessions where messages of ‘conversations can change lives’ targeted people of all ages and backgrounds. There has been increased awareness of suicides in the community locally and nationally but MATES is designed to provide confidential support and advice for those living in Essex and even beyond. Any funds raised alongside it will go towards infrastructure costs such as training new counsellors to help intervene and hopefully alter people’s lives. We walkers feel quite closely aligned to this group, it’s very much part of everyone’s lives especially during these tough times - and we hope we can support raising awareness of mental health for all.

As ever we will also be raising money for the Chelmsford City Supports' Club, to help them continue the good community work they have been involved in for many years.

Experience tells us this will not be easy, however very worthwhile if we can raise some funds to help these superb causes. Your support and donations are always received with utmost thanks, and really do keep us going during the wetter, colder moments of the walk!
