Hi everyone

Thank you so much for your interest in this fantastic school!

This school is really close to my heart as the founder and Headmaster, Simon Suta Mendy created this school off his own back (without Government funding) to take the local children off the streets and into the classroom, to instil them with a first class education. Xavier Nursery and Lower Basic School in Farato, Gambia uses much of its own resources to teach 215 local children aged between 3-12 years, so they may get the best start in life!

I’ve been out to visit the school 3 times now and am always blown away by the advanced level of Maths and English being taught as well as the teachers’ commitment and dedication to the children. Really proud to be sponsoring them for the fourth year.

A few years ago there were not enough classrooms for the amount of children attending the school. And In addition many parents struggling to pay for their child’s education there. As a result, Xavier Nursery and Lower Basic school would have certainly faced closure, if it werent for your donations! Your support makes a HUGE difference! <3

To date, your donations have supported the following developments

• Creation of a school library

• Provided all school children with embroidered uniform

• Raised funds for a two new classrooms and a new school playground

• Provided consistent supplies, including workbooks, chalks, pens, reading books, children’s and adults clothes, shoes, toys and games

As the school has rapidly grown, with 3 new classrooms and a new playground to the site, it now lacks a secure surrounding enclosure! A surrounding fence will secure the children there and prevent unwanted visitors as well as farm animals/cattle from trespassing on the school premises. We need to raise £400 to purchase more bricks and materials as well as pay for the labour to build the fence. This will help towards the control of new school site and of course help to ensure the safety of the children there, so they may learn in peace.

Every child should be kept safe, especially in their learning environment! And a fence will make a huge difference to their learning experience in school.

My son and I will be taking a trip to the school this

December with group of volunteers to personally ensure all funds are directly received and to offer our support within the school as well supply resources – we would love to keep you posted with updates!
