Story

For the past two years Yada has been researching and developing a new support service for women in the sex industry in Sussex. Launching in September 2017 the service will offer outreach visits to women at a location of their choice focussing on Safety, Support and Signposting.

There are approximately 100,000 women involved in the sex industry in the UK.

50% of women in the sex industry have been raped and/or sexually assaulted and at least 75% have been physically assaulted.

In 2009, 1 in 3 local authorities had no specialist support service available to women facing violence. Since then the sector has been cut by over 30%. (Stats from: http://beyondthestreets.org.uk/why-help/)

Our vision is to see a world with no place for sexual exploitation, where women live empowered lives in connection and community.

Yada’s meaning ‘to be known’ motivates us to create a culture of support and acceptance for each woman, living a life free from abuse and stigma. Yada challenges the notion that all who enter the sex industry do so out of unrestricted choice, and we exist to enrich and offer new opportunities.

Through your support we will be decreasing isolation and stigma that many women in the sex industry can face. By offering signposting to other local services and safety information and advice women will be in a much stronger position to keep themselves well and safe.

All donations will go towards supporting the running of the project.
