Story

So we're back again.

Yankuba has been awaiting a positive verdict on his asylum claim for over five years now. They've treated him terribly, and at times illegally - evidenced by their retreat as soon as Yankuba has had the funds to legally challenge them. He's been moved out of Sheffield, cutting off access to charities that were helping him, his friends and support networks. In this isolated state, they've rejected his claim again.

In their eyes, whilst satisfied that his life is in danger should he return home, they see no reason why he can't relocate within Gambia. I'll break this down:

A quick Google will show you Gambia is on the verge of an ethnic genocide, stemming from the unwillingness and inability of a fledgling democratic government to intercede on tribal politics and disrupt their voting base. An expert report, paid for from the last round of money we raised to aid Yankuba's defence (which wasn't allowed for submission during his last hearing), details the reasons why he can't simply "relocate within Gambia." As well as the rising violence and unrest, Gambia has one of the poorest economies in the world. Communities survive working the land and living in compounds of extended families. To attempt a life within Gambia outside of these conditions would surely lead to destitution, without even considering the risk he faces from over 50% of Gambia's 3 million population.

So it's time for another run and another party. There's more of us this time, and Yankuba has an impressive lawyer who believes his case is winnable. But she wants paying. So we're going to run 30 miles from Sheffield to where Yankuba is in Wakefield, and bring him back to Sheffield for a gig at the Brothers Arms.

We can't let him go back to Gambia to be killed. He has too much love here among too many people, and England deserves him. So please dig deep and donate to help us reach our mark, and we'll see you at the pub on Sunday December 15th for some boss live music, booze and fun.
