Weʼve raised £120 to Help fund the York Community Therapy & Wellbeing CIC, making therapy and wellbeing more accessible to people who struggle financially

    York, UK
Funded on Sunday, 31st March 2019

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

The stress incidence rate makes 2017 the highest year in ten years since 2006/07. The number of working days lost due to work related stress, depression or anxiety in 2016/17 was 12.5 million days, costing an average of 8bn a year. (

A total 8.9 million working days were lost due to work-related musculoskeletal disorders in 2016/17. Most MSDs were suffered in the upper limbs or neck (45 per cent), followed by the back (28 per cent of disorders). (

YCTW CIC (community interest company = not-for-profit) aims to bring well-being to people who, otherwise, would not be able to afford it (people on a low income or none, single parents, learning disabilities, PTSD sufferers, homeless, victims of violence, refugees, people who live on benefits due to a health condition we, therapists of York, may be able to help with, and so on ). By making therapy services more accessible, we are also bringing awareness of the huge range of effective therapies offered in our beautiful York. But most importantly, we are helping to build a happier and healthier community.

This initiative will help alleviating some of the strain from the NHS as well, such as long waiting lists and a tight range of treatments offered for free. By using complementary therapies, we want to bring awareness of their benefits and hopefully leave behind the "pop-a-pill quick fix" concept which comes with not so attractive side effects. It is all about information, encouragement and taking back control over our health.

I care about this because I strongly believe everyone should have the right to access professional medical help regardless of their financial situation.

    • Making therapy and wellbeing more accessible to the community.

    • Help empower our community to take control of their health and well-being by making therapy more accessible.

    • Raise awareness of how effective complementary therapies are at helping you feel good again.

Bringing together local therapists who share a passion for helping others, to build a healthier and happier community whilst stimulating economic growth for therapeutic business in York

    • Everyone has the right to be well.

    • Everyone has the right to access therapy.

    • In giving back to the community.

    • We can help reduce anxiety and depression in the community.

    • We can help people regain their independence and get back to work faster after an illness or period of sick leave.

    • We can alleviate some of the strain on the NHS, especially when it comes to waiting lists.

    • In raising awareness of the effectiveness of complementary therapies.

    • Encouraging the preventative and proactive approach to health and wellbeing.

    • We can boost the local economy by stimulating growth for local therapeutic businesses.

    • We can contribute to the local community by providing volunteer opportunities, offering skill development and work experience.

    1. Asking therapists in York and the surrounding areas to commit to offering an accessible priced rate on at least one treatment for a minimum of one hour per month to someone who needs it in their local community.

    2. Organising free therapy/information events across the city which will serve us to get closer to knowing exactly what different social groups need in terms of health and wellbeing.

The website and the community initiative will be promoted locally on posters in community venues, in the press, radio and social media, as well as through a series of local government venues such as the Job Centre and the York City Council. Including events encouraging members of the community to meet therapists and discover the benefits of complementary therapies in an affordable, accessible and friendly environment, as well as offering a list of free community events going on in York. On the website, people can find who does what in their local area.

Our aim is to launch with 35 therapists across the thirteen core therapeutic categories/disciplines: massage, nutrition, acupuncture, physiotherapy, pregnancy, fertility, fitness classes, life coaching, creative expression, mental health, teen's wellbeing, personal training...

NEWS: We are building the Healing for the Homeless scheme which will involve massage therapy, life coaching and creative/expressive writing workshops (for now. Hopefully more in the future! We've only just started!). These sessions will take place throughout the year in the hope that we can improve their quality of life and help them gain confidence and feel better about themselves, which can be a life changer. We all know that sometimes we just need a little push or a little reminder to make the changes we wish to make. PLEASE SUPPORT US 🙏

15 members so far! The volunteer network of professional therapists grows by the day. Showing how much we care and why we chose the professions we have chosen. This is very profound to me as a healer. Please check our website, and share it among struggling communities of York

I have been a massage therapist for over 10 years. The reason why I chose this path is because I want to help people feel better. It is truly rewarding to witness the transformation my clients go through thanks to my treatments!
