Last year I was lucky enough to volunteer in the Ongata Rongai Special Care Needs and Training Centre where I got to meet and work with some amazing children with huge potential.

The staff work hard but many things we consider a neccesity are a luxury for them. For example standard wheelchairs are not suitable because the road are uneven, made worse by the rainy season so many of the children do not have the chance to leave the centre. This is why I am hoping to adapt a wheelchair to be suitable for the roads in Kenya, able to be fitted to any of the children for use. This could mean that not only can the children leave the centre, but they will be able to made medical appointments should they fall ill.

All of the clothes and shoes available to the children are donations, and often do not fit. I am hoping to ensure that each of the children has a pair of shoes that fits so that they can be taken out.

The money fundraised will also go towards resources such as towels to support the childrens posture correctly and reduce the pain that they may be in due to skeletal deformities. Anything left over will go toward imroving nutrition, oral hygiene and craft supplies for the local children who consider these items a luxury.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated by these wonderful children and I will keep everyone updated on their progress.
