Story

I am supporting my daughter, Yingli Tang, who is fundraising to go on a month-long expedition to Peru and Bolivia in summer 2018 with 20 other people. This is her final drive to raise funds before her departure in July 2018:

Tuen tytärtäni Yingli Tangia joka kerää varoja voidakseen osallistua kuukauden mittaiselle matkalle Peruun ja Boliviaan kesällä 2018 20 muun lukiolaisen kanssa. Tämä on hänen viimeinen yrityksensä hankkia varoja ennen lähtoä heinäkuussa 2018:

I am Yingli Tang, and I am a sixth form (upper school) student from Lincolnshire.

I will be going on a month-long expedition to Peru and Bolivia in summer 2018 with 20 other people. We have planned the expedition ourselves to learn to be self-sufficient. Part of this is to organise and manage the expedition ourselves, and to the raise funds to go on the expedition.

We have planned our own travel within the countries and will be managing ourselves throughout the whole expedition (with some guidance from expedition leaders). As well as trekking across the two countries, and we will be helping in a local project in a rural community.

The project is in the village Azul Wasi, set up by a local policeman who wanted alternative rehabilitation facilities to those run by the government. The children's home is to help homeless children find themselves after ending up on the street for whatever reasons. The children's home is very basic and is always in need of support from willing volunteers.

Some of the things we will be helping and supporting with may include building or painting the facilities, teaching or playing with the children with new learning, or simply to broaden their experience of other cultures, and for us to learn, too.

It will be a challenge as I do not know Spanish, so I will need to learn some to be able to speak with the people and especially the children. The experience will challenge me personally to develop my confidence, self-sufficiency and stretch my team working skills as well as being educational as I will be discovering different culture, people and continent completely unknown to me.

The total cost of the trip is £4,395, and so far I have only raised half the amount. As well as raising the funds myself, I need to learn how to manage money, record-keep and budget for the whole expedition. The funds will be used to cover flights, insurance, food, accommodation and local travel.

If you can contribute in any way, however large or small it would be greatly appreciated by me.
