I am Yingli Tang, and I am a sixth form (upper school) student from Lincolnshire.

I will be going on a month-long expedition to Peru and Bolivia in summer 2018 with 24 other people. We will be planning, organising and managing the expedition ourselves, and part of this is to raise our own funds to go on the expedition.

We are planning our own itinerary, activities and managing the expedition and our budget ourselves. We will be organising our own travel in the country, and as well as trekking across the two countries, and we will also be helping rural communities and local projects along the way. The project work might include building or painting buildings, working and playing with children and teaching lessons such as English. It also aims to protect and preserve the area’s environment.

It will be a challenge as I do not know how to speak Spanish, so I will need to learn some to be able to speak with the people there. I will also need to acclimatise to the high altitude of Peru and be able to communicate and work with the locals. The trip will challenge me personally, to develop my skills of leadership, teamwork, confidence and self-sufficiency.

The expedition will also be educational for me because I will be discovering a culture, people and country completely unknown to me. This trip will allow me to discover another part of the world and help me gain invaluable experience for the future.

The total cost of the trip is £4,395, and I will need to fundraise the entire amount myself. I will need to be committed every step of the way, and this will teach me lessons of managing money, record-keeping and target setting. The money will cover flights, insurance, food, accommodation and local travel.
