Story

I am raising £4,500 to improve sanitation, build cooking facilities, and establish a science laboratory at a school in Dharapur, Gujarat, India.

I am raising funds in loving memory of my late father, who was born in Dharapur, Gujarat, India, and began his educational journey at the local primary school in the village. During a recent visit to the school—where we commemorated his life by providing meals to all the students—I observed that the facilities were in extremely poor condition. In particular, the existing toilets are unhygienic and inadequate, posing safety and health concerns, especially for the female students.

In response, I am seeking to raise funds to support the construction of new, safe, and hygienic toilet facilities for the school. Additionally, I hope to build a small kitchen on-site to enable the school to prepare and provide nutritious meals for students—many of whom come from low-income families and may not have access to regular meals. This initiative aims not only to improve health and sanitation but also to ensure that children are encouraged to attend school, supported by the security of at least one reliable meal per day.

In addition to improving sanitation and meal facilities, I am also raising funds to build a science laboratory at the village school in Dharapur, Gujarat. The school currently lacks the infrastructure required to offer science subjects for Year 11 and 12, which forces students to travel over 20km to the nearest school with the necessary facilities. This distance presents a significant barrier—particularly for female students—whose families often do not permit them to travel due to safety concerns. As a result, many girls are being withdrawn from education after Year 10. By establishing a laboratory within the school, we aim to secure permission to teach science at the higher secondary level and ensure that all students, especially girls, have continued access to quality education within their own village.

Your support will help honour my father’s legacy by making a lasting, meaningful impact on the lives of these students and their community.
