Story

Hey guys, my name is Soraia Jeronimo and I am raising money to supply 4 schools with stationary materials, school furniture and help with renovations/building classrooms in Kenema, Eastern Province Sierra Leone.

In 2017, I decided to volunteer with a charity called International Citizen Service (ICS), as my passion has always been to help others, in whichever way I can.

I spent 12 weeks on my placement with International Citizen Service (ICS) in Kenema, Eastern Province Sierra Leone. I lived with a host family and this within the communities we would work in, so I had first hand experience of what was needed within the community as I was living in it.

During placement I visited a lot of schools and spoke to many children and teachers. The common issue I would hear was that the quality of the education and the environment just weren’t good enough, and this was demotivating for the students, and the teachers.

With this thought constantly running through my mind, I thought there had to be something I could do. So I decided to go back in June 2018, as I knew there was a lot of work that could be done! With this mentality, I have decided to fundraise for the children of the schools, I had the privilege to work with in 2017. Garner Primary School, National Pentecostal School, Namya Islamic Primary School and United Methodist Primary SchoolI. Along with the help of my Sierra Leonean counter part Luseni and our past colleagues, Abubakar and Sahr.

I will be travelling back to Kenema, Sierra Leone in January and our aim is to fundraise this amount by then! With your help, we will be able to do this.

With the help of all of you, I want to give all the kids of Kenema a fair chance to grow and further there education and give them a wider opportunity of having a fulfilling and sustainable life. We all have the right to a fair start in their educational life.

The funds will be distributed between 4 schools, Garner Primary School, National Pentecostal School, Namya Islamic Primary School and United Methodist Primary School.

Thank you for helping us with this journey to change the world in which many children see as dark. Thank you for bringing light into their world and ours.

With love,

Soraia Jeronimo.
