Fundraising for Winter Support for Syrian and Bulgarian children and families.

For those who know me will know I try to make charity and volunteering an integral part of my life in order to help others and serve my Lord and His creation.

This year, my fiance Sayed Yousaf and I wish to ask for charity contributions instead of receiving any gifts for our upcoming wedding.

We are aiming to raise funds for 2 charities that we hold very closely to our hearts.

The first is Hearts of Pleven. A charity I co-founded along with two others to help the elderly, orphans, and families in need in Pleven, Bulgaria. H.O.P provides care packages as well as essential items for those in need through fundraising events held by fellow medical students. The second is the Lady Zainab Helping Hands. The LZHH appeal is based in Syria where around 6 million people are left internally displaced, having escaped their hometowns in search of safety. Temperatures are currently dropping and those widows and orphans who arrived with little or no possessions, are at risk from the cold winter months.

They are living in temporary shelters or abandoned buildings where children are most likely to fall ill with diseases, such as pneumonia. Without nutritional food, and support, their immune systems will be fragile and may result in the loss of life.

We aim to raise funds for the LZHH Appeal as part of World Federation Aid to gather and provide winter essentials, medical assessments and treatments – along with emergency aid in the form of food baskets, education supplies and home supplies. LZHH also supports educational needs for refugees including extra-curricular activities for orphans as well as support for children with special needs e.g. autism and ADHD in a warm and child friendly environment.
