Story

11 TIMES UP AND DOWN THE WREKIN ON SUNDAY 25th JULY 2021 START TIME 5AM!

Yuvraj (11 years old) unfortunately was diagnosed with ALL Leukaemia during a global pandemic. Life could not have seemed any worse for Yuvraj and his family. Then sadly it’s was so difficult to find out that he did not respond to his initial Chemotherapy treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. To everyones surprise Yuvraj relapsed and doctors had to begin a plan B, to be told that he had a more rare aggressive type of Leukaemia. The only way forward was to start Yuvraj on an aggressive chemotherapy drug called Nelarabine which was to be administered at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

After 6 weeks in Birmingham and Telford hospital, Yuvraj came home for Christmas 🎄

Just after New year Yuvraj’s family were told devastating news that he had a rare T-Cell ALL Leukaemia. In order to get Yuvraj on the road to recovery, he would need a Stem Cell Transplant and was in need of a donor. The next plan was to find a donor match from either his immediate family or from the Stem Cell Donor register.

Meanwhile Yuvraj went to stay in Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH) to have his first dose of aggressive chemotherapy and then returned back to Telford hospital. He responded well and was on the right track to reducing the Leukaemia. After another 6 weeks he was given another 5 day dose of Chemotherapy in BCH and then finally returned home for a break at the end of February. However he still had to visit hospital 3 times a Week for medication as well as taking medication at home. At this point he just wanted it all just to go away! He was being so brave even when scared and upset.

Throughout these months Yuvraj was put to sleep to have regular Bone Marrow Tests and Lumbar punctures to find out how many Leukaemia cells remained and how well chemotherapy had worked. He has also received many blood transfusions and platelets to keep his blood counts at the right amount. He has done so well and has continued to prove to doctors that he is so courageous and stronger than he thinks. Yuvraj’s family and friends are so proud of the battles he has already fought.

Fast forward a few more months to July, Yuvraj rings the bell - HE IS CANCER FREE!!

I hope to raise a minimum of £2500 for Yuvraj and his family to help aid with the road to recovery 🙌
