Story

On Tuesday July 3rd I am going to be doing a skydive to help raise money for my trip to Costa Rica and Nicaragua with Raleigh International in October 2018.

Nicaragua is the third poorest community in the Western Hemisphere, with a limited access to things like clean drinking water. The community work I will be doing out there will involve raising awareness within the community about the effects of poor sanitation, teaching them skills to aid cleanliness and maybe even building some toilet blocks. There's a big focus on educating the younger generation in the hope that these skills and knowledge will be passed on. Whilst on this project I'll be living with a Nicaraguan family and learning about their culture and way of life. I will also be a part of an environmental project where we may be planting trees or clearing forest pathways.

Going on this expedition is very important to me. I believe everyone should have access to something as vital as clean water and I'm driven to do something to help that is going to have a lasting impact. I'm very keen to have the opportunity to reach out to other people my age from a completely different background to me. I'm also a big lover of the environment and, in my opinion, we as humans should be doing our best to look after and preserve it.
