Story
Throughout the Buddhist world, circling a person or place is a sign of respect. In Tibet numerous kora – walking routes circling holy mountains, lakes or monasteries – cover the country. In Japan the thousand-kilometre pilgrimage of Shikoku is a beginingless-endless circle. Up until he was eighty years old, Zen Master Shinzan practiced “running zen” and we’re currently putting together some materials on his teachings around this dynamic form of practice. Nine years ago Zen Master Shinzan presided over the opening of our dojo and created the remarkable enso, the Zen circle that is our symbol. Now he is in very frail health and in a care home.
He will be 85 years old on the 2nd July
To raise funds to send over to Japan for Zen Master Shinzan's care our teacher Daizan will be running a shukai - a circular marathon route in the streets around Zenways London Dojo on 28th May, our ninth anniversary. Please offer your support if you can.
