Story

On the 19th of August 2017 I started my 1 month journey to work in a hospital in the Philippines. When I started my journey I expected some of the conditions to be shocking but not as shocking as they were. I entered the ward where there were 3 children in each bed, up to 120 patients on a 43 bedded ward, and corridors filled with beds and family members. 3 nurses ran the ward at a time, and approximately 3 children died each day. I watched children unable to have life saving treatment and medication because families couldn't afford it, or the supplies just weren't there as the hospital couldn't afford them. It was only noticed that children and babies had gone into cardiac arrest when general observations were done because cardiac monitoring was only available for 1 or 2 children on the ward. It was at this point where I decided I couldn't come home and do nothing to try and help just a small amount. I am fundraising to buy equipment such as oxygen probes, blood pressure cuffs and machines, gloves, masks and many more. I will be running a half marathon on the 10th of June, and for those that know me, me running is unheard of! Any donations would be massively appreciated, and definitely will be going to a good cause, something that we definitely overlook in a first world country.

Many thanks, Zoe
