Story

After what seemed like constant screentime due to home schooling, last week I set my 11 year old, Lilly a challenge...
I asked her to find out about 'Lizzie the Elephant', the working Elephant in Sheffield during World War 1.
Lizzie carried all the scrap metal whilst the usual horses were being used in the war, she was legendary, could do the work of 3 horses and was known by everyone in the city.
After finding out so much, the idea came about of getting a monument of Lizzie to honour her and her memory.
Lilly emailed the Sheffield Star, who published her story and since then has had contact with an artist, a lady who's great grandfather looked after Lizzie and now is going onto BBC Radio Sheffield to talk about all of this some more!
We would really like to raise the money to have a sculpture of 'Lizzie the Elephant' erected where she was housed, near Ladies Bridge.

I have never done anything like this before so I'm not sure what to expect, if we dont raise enough/raise more than needed, we will donate to the Sheffield Childrens Hospital.

Thank you for taking the time to read 🙂
