Story
In October 2024, I'm running Cardiff Half Marathon and attempting to break the Guinness World Record for fastest half marathon dressed as a cartoon character (female).
I'm doing this to raise money for two incredible causes: METUPUK and The Snowdrop Breast Centre at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.
METUPUK is an amazing charity working tirelessly to improve education, healthcare policy, research and drug access for those with metastatic (incurable) breast cancer. Metastatic breast cancer is the leading cause of death in the UK of women aged 35-64 and we desperately need more research, awareness and advocacy.
The Snowdrop Breast Centre is a brand new unit at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital that has been purpose-designed to provide specialist breast care to patients in Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. Opened in Spring 2023, it is a calm, supportive environment where we can provide state-of-the-art breast cancer care to our patients.
As well as being a consultant breast surgeon, I am a mother to 4-year old twins. They adore princesses and when I told them I would be dressing up as a princess for the half marathon, they said 'But Mummy, princesses don't do sport'. So, my final aim with the half marathon is to show little girls everywhere that princesses CAN do sport!
