Story

My dear longtime friend Zoë and her boyfriend David were in Grenfell tower and were fast asleep on the night the devastating fire broke out.

Thankfully their neighbour Mahad woke them up by banging on their door because the communal fire alarms could not be heard.

Zoë and her family had lived in Grenfell for the majority of her 30 years. I have many good memories of her life there. Everything had to be left behind and she fled the flat with only her keys, the clothes she was wearing, and her phone.

Just a month ago, she told me she was so happy to be back home. A serious health and safety issue in the flat meant she had to live in a hotel room for two months. Once again, she is without a permanent home.

Now, as you might have guessed, Zoë has once again been unable to return to the flat on the 4th floor – the same floor that the fire had started on – and it's very likely that everything inside belonging to Zoë, her family, and David is completely damaged by fire, water and smoke.

I've set up this page because so many people have been messaging me asking how they can help Zoë. She is thankful that her and David are alive and healthy, and they are doing their best to carry on despite their circumstances and are helping others with their grief and shock.

Please donate what you can to help them rebuild their lives.

Also, thank you for your kind words and thoughts.
