FAFU was founded in 2016 to support vulnerable children in Uganda. Primarily, projects were focused around providing access to education to disadvantaged youths and we still run an active sponsorship program. FAFU later diversified into healthcare projects - particularly around raising awareness for the HPV vaccine since cervical cancer is the major killer of women in Uganda. We developed a comic book for students to better understand the risks, how to avoid HPV and the available vaccine. In recent years, FAFU recognized a dire need to support children with cancer in Uganda after witnessing families stranded around the major government hospital, unable to afford a clear diagnosis. It was impossible to comprehend that for these families, the news that their child has cancer is not the end of their bad news, but worse still they lack the funds to even try to fight it. FAFU made it a priority to restore dignity & hope for these children and their families by covering diagnosis & treatment costs & providing nutritious meals to empower them to fight their best fight in the battle against cancer. Thanks to our donors, this project got off to a great start but we are now looking to expand this, with a focus on early diagnosis for better outcomes and supporting more children in need.
