ARCHIES STORY
As many of you know Clare and I have 4 boys, all of them have their own individuality that makes them the unique person they are.
Archie our youngest son arrived in 2007 making our family complete, and as some of you may remember he made his arrival special by being born at home on the bathroom floor!
Life was busy, but as Archie developed it became clear there was something different, so we began to compile our evidence and look for guidance and support, to give a reason as to why our daily routine doing normal family things, brought so much distress to our little boy.
It was not an easy task to have our voice heard at first, but because Archie was the fourth son we knew there were differences to his siblings.
In 2013 we found our answers in the diagnosis of Autism.
What is this? It is not an illness ,but a hidden disability which affects the way a person can interact socially, communicate and cope in the world we live in.
What may be a pleasant experience for example going to the cinema , can be hell on Earth for an autistic person.
Why is this? - sensory overload, Crowds, Lights, and Noise, we have tried cinema trips many times and sadly this is a past time Archie cannot cope with.
We can’t change the world we live in , but organisations such as 'ambitious about Autism ' can offer resources, support and education to highlight the needs of those on the Autistic Spectrum and their families.
Archie is now an amazing 12 year old, who still struggles on a daily basis, and this is why I am running for team Autism at the London Marathon on April 26th 2020 to raise funds for this essential charity.
Archie is very literal hence his question of 'if no news is good news, why did Jesus spread the good news?’, but he would be the first to tell you he wants to be just like everyone else and enjoy his life and have friends but challenges just get in his way.
So please donate whatever you can to help improve the lives of those living with this lifelong disability, or even just reading this you may understand their journey and Archie’s a little more.
Thank You
Justin
