About Hastings Contemporary
Hastings Contemporary is a vital cultural community hub for Hastings. We are a independent charity operating in the most deprived borough in the South East. We only receive a small amount of public funding and rely heavily on admissions and other related areas of income.
Hastings Contemporary champions modern and contemporary art with a bold and ambitious exhibition programme, showing works by historically important and internationally renowned artists, and emerging practitioners, as well as exploring the rich cultural history of artists from the South East. Our Learning and Participation programme works with learners from 0 to 99 years old and is underpinned by the idea that ‘everyone is an artist’. We work with every school in the town to promote the arts. At the heart of our work is a commitment to our community and an ambition to develop the gallery into a centre for creative wellbeing. Our programme is rooted in the local setting, drawing on the rich artistic heritage of the town and constantly looking for ways to promote the work of local creative practitioners.
