In 1887, Mayfield and Five Ashes raised funds by public subscription to instal a new clock in the church tower of St. Dunstan’s to celebrate the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria, one of the iconic figures of the nineteenth century. Today, there is also another Jubilee to celebrate in 2022, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee. The Parish Council and the Church Council propose that the repairs and updating required for the clock is a suitable village community project to mark the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s accession, echoing the actions of the village at an earlier special event. The Appeal has a target of £15,000.
