A powerful 6.0-magnitude earthquake has struck Nangarhar and Kunar provinces in eastern Afghanistan, killing over 800 people and injuring more than 2,000.

Story

The Afghan Student’s Association at OTU have partnered with IDRF, one of the top 100 charities in Canada, to raise funds in support of emergency relief for the people of Afghanistan.

Our goal is to raise $3,000 for humanitarian aid dedicated to those impacted in Afghanistan by the earthquake. Join us to make a difference, inspire, and change the lives of many.

The Situation

A devastating 6.0-magnitude earthquake has struck Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar and Kunar provinces, killing over 800 people, injuring more than 2,000, and leaving thousands homeless. Entire villages have been flattened, homes built from mud and stone have collapsed, and survivors are now trapped without food, water, or shelter. Landslides block roads, rescue teams are overwhelmed, and aftershocks continue to shake the region.

This tragedy comes at a time when communities in Afghanistan are already struggling with poverty, food insecurity, and limited access to health services. Winter is approaching, and families who have lost everything face even greater danger in the coming weeks.

There is an urgent need for ready-to-eat meals, family food packs, medical support, tents, and warm clothing at the moment.

How IDRF is Helping

Through our local teams, we are mobilizing to deliver life-saving aid, including food packages for families in the worst-hit areas, blankets to protect against the cold, tents for displaced households, and hygiene kits distributed to vulnerable groups, such as women-headed households, children, and the elderly.

Together, these efforts aim to save lives, restore dignity, and support early recovery in some of the hardest-to-reach communities.

Your support today can bring immediate relief to a family in crisis. A donation of $150 towards our emergency response fund will enable us to provide families with food, medical supplies, blankets and tents where needed to respond to the crisis. Your donation today will go directly to urgent relief, and as needs evolve, it will continue to protect families through food, shelter, and medical support.

Any donations above $10.00 CAD will receive a tax-deductible receipt from IDRF.
