This September, I’m joining an inspiring fundraising campaign for Northwest Association for Blind Athletes (NWABA) to help them continue their work providing life-changing opportunities through sports and physical activity for children, youth, and adults who are blind and visually impaired.

As a volunteer, I’ve seen firsthand how deeply their work matters. Whether it’s the confidence of a child riding a tandem bike for the first time, or the pride of an athlete crossing a finish line, NWABA helps people thrive. Specifically, NWABA is fundraising this fall to support Camp Spark. Camp Spark is a comprehensive overnight sports camp for individuals ages 8 to 21, who are blind and visually impaired - it's adaptive sports camp for young people who are blind or visually impaired! Unfortunately, federal funding for the camp has recently been cut, impacting the future of the camp.

Every time I have the opportunity to join an NWABA event - whether to tandem bike, run a 5K, kayak/paddle or swim - I have an amazing time with adult and youth participants, other volunteers and staff. The programs offered by NWABA open doors to community, physical challenge and confidence for all. A favorite memory of mine is while out on paddle boards, hearing about Miguel's success at his second ever triathlon taking >40 minutes off his finishing time from the first time and how he was so inspired to continue training for next year that he's signed up for additional fitness classes.
