Story
Ability Online is not just a charity, it is a community.
My name is Joshua Ang. I am a television producer, aspiring lawyer, (soon-to-be) marathon runner, and proud member of the disability community.
At age fourteen I was diagnosed with Stargardt’s disease, a degenerative visual impairment. Life with a visual impairment has been rewarding, but hasn’t come without its fair share of challenges. One of which has been finding community. As someone experiencing a disability at such a young age, I often felt alone. Not through any purposeful actions of those around me, but becauseI felt that as the only disabled person in my network there was no one I could turn to who understood the difficulties I was dealing with.
Ability Online helped change this for me. Ability Online provides a holistic and innovative model of support for helping vulnerable youth and young adults with disabilities or health challenges to reduce social isolation and increase inclusion. Its supportive and safe online community fosters positive attitudes, builds self-esteem, and inspires involvement which contributes to emotional health and wellness.
Although my introduction to Ability Online was as an interning student, it is its incredible community that has inspired me to continue on as a volunteer these past three years. If you are looking to support more than a cause but a collective, please consider making a donation to my fundraising page. Every contribution is sincerely appreciated!
Thank you,
Joshua
