Destination Imagination is a project based, student-driven program that teaches kids to be innovative problem solvers. Using STEAM, teams of students collaborate, think outside the box, and create unique solutions to one of seven different challenges in preparation for a fun, problem-solving competition. Since starting the program at GCS, our teams have had several successes in the State and Global competitions. This school year, the program has expanded to the Upper School and retained three middle school teams and a Rising Stars Primary Building team. We anticipate having teams make it to compete at the State and Global level once again!
Kolton has participated in DI now for three seasons. This year, he is tackling the "Worlds Beyond" challenge where he and his team have researched a planet and a unique phenomenon. They then have developed a story about a character who thinks they are alone only to discover they are not that also integrates a scientific demonstration of this phenomenon. Their story also includes the use of "technobabble" and a "technobabble depictor" they have built to translate technobabble used.
He and his team have been working hard and learning so much along the way about motors, circuits & soldering, planetary science, collaboration, time management, and the engineering design process.
