Story
Dorset Council works closely with ICN who provide a range to services to the refugee community and we have decided to support this local project that will directly support refugees in Dorset.
The ICN project plans to take a more holistic view of people and their needs, and aim to address both physical and mental health needs. Subject to securing the funds required, they will employ a mental health practitioner who can:
deliver one-to-one support
direct people and signpost them for further specialist support if needed
run workshops
increase our liaison with local mental health professionals
offer culturally nuanced support to other professionals
This is a crucial form of support for refugees and asylum seekers, of which many have been traumatised by the circumstances that led to them needing to leave their homes. This trauma is compounded by the post-migration trauma of needing to navigate their lives in a new culture and context. Your donations will go towards the services of a mental health professional who can help them.
ICN aim to raise £15,000 during 2023 in order to ensure they have sufficient funds to employ the professional we need to provide this specialist support.
