Story

Mental Health of Refugees and Asylum Seekers

ICN plans to take a more holistic view of people and their needs, and we aim to address both physical and mental health needs. Subject to securing the funds required, we will employ a mental health practitioner who can:

deliver one-to-one support

direct people and signpost them for further specialist support if needed

run workshops

increase our liaison with local mental health professionals

offer culturally nuanced support to other professionals

This is a crucial form of support for refugees and asylum seekers, of which many have been traumatised by the circumstances that led to them needing to leave their homes. This trauma is compounded by the post-migration trauma of needing to navigate their lives in a new culture and context. Your donations will go towards the services of a mental health professional who can help them.

ICN aim to raise £15,000 during 2023 in order to ensure we have sufficient funds to employ the professional we need to provide this specialist support.

Donations small and large are welcome on JustGiving as we seek to raise £15,000. Your support will make a real difference to the wellbeing of asylum seekers and refugees in Dorset.

Alternatively, if you would prefer to set up a monthly donation to support ICNs overall programmes, please visit our Stewardship page.

Thank you for supporting asylum seekers and refugees in Dorset!
