Story
Sindy Hooper will always be the captain of the MEMC (Make Every Moment Count) Crew. She started this movement not long after her diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in 2013. She defied the odds, surviving for 11 years following her diagnosis.
Sindy worked tirelessly to raise money for pancreatic cancer research at The Ottawa Hospital. Shortly after learning she had cancer, she recruited 100 people to run at Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend. They were known as Marathoners Gone Viral and they raised more than $100,000. In the years since, the team, which is now called Make Every Moment Count (MEMC), has grown and has raised more than $600,000 for cancer research.
In November 2023, these efforts were celebrated publicly when Sindy was honoured with the Association of Fundraising Professionals Inspiration Award in recognition of her unwavering courage and dedication to giving back.
While Sindy passed away on September 13, 2024, her movement continues. Sindy lived each day with gratitude and did her best to truly make every moment count. Her love for life, her enthusiasm, her willingness to share herself with the world, and her MEMC attitude brought hope to many, as well as raising much needed research funds. Her team carries that attitude and hope forward today.
Thank you for your support of Sindy’s efforts — her legacy lives on.
