Story
In 2006, I was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive type of tumour called a desmoid tumour (also known as fibromatosis). These tumours grow deep in muscle, and mine were located in my left abdominal flank. For years, I faced multiple tumours and complications but the care I received made all the difference.
My specialist, Dr. Werier, was exactly what I needed: kind, confident, and steady through every stage of this little-known condition. His administrative assistant was always warm and attentive, and the team in the Plaster Room, where I had weekly follow-ups, kept my spirits up even on the hardest days.
This is why I’m fundraising for The Ottawa Hospital Foundation this year, to honour the people who supported me and to help ensure others receive the same exceptional care.
