Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm sure by now most of you know I used to run an awful lot. In fact I've run 3 marathons & was going to take place in the Manchester & the London marathon in 2020 which were only 3 weeks apart, unfortunately covid hit which affected everybody but for myself 2020 put me in hospital for 5 months. I was diagnosed with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder or NMOSD.
This is an autoimmune condition which means that my antibodies attacked my nervous system.
I ended up paralysed from the neck down & lost the sight in my right eye. It was a very long road of recovery, which I'm still on.
I had to learn how to move my fingers, move my arms, feed myself, brush my own teeth, wash myself, I had to learn how to balance sitting up. I then had to learn how to dress myself and get into a wheelchair, I have to learn how to push myself in a wheelchair and because I was immobile for so long most of my muscles had wasted away to pretty much nothing.
I then had, in my eyes a miracle, I wiggled my big toe, it was incredibly hard, and frustrating at times but I eventually managed to move my legs. I left hospital in a wheelchair and my husband literally got me back on my feet, I then took my first steps with a walker, and continued to improve but it's not perfect I will never be fully recovered, I wobble about when I walk without an aid, and I still only have 10% vision in my right eye so pretty much blind in that eye.
I also had to forfeit my place at London 2020 (which is deferred but just wasn't strong enough to take part in)
So there you have it my sob story.
But a few months ago I made an impulsive decision to apply for a place in the London marathon 2026 not expecting to get one but today I've received an email that I have been selected!!!!
I GOT A PLACE!!!
I will be walking.... possibly crawling the London marathon & I will be raising funds for the spinal injury association.
HOWEVER For me to even get to start line I need to raise £2000. So I'm out with my begging bowl and I' asking for any donation you can give, absolutely anything would be greatly appreciated.
