Join the Reconnect community
Established in 2003 Reconnect is a London based charity that works with unemployed and underemployed refugees providing them with assessment and Advice, Information Guidance (AIG), mentoring and training opportunities, and enabling them to gain teaching qualifications to work in further/ higher education in UK as well as in developing countries.
Reconnect also supports refugees in gaining journalism qualifications to work in the media and / or use the skills to effectively tell their stories to their communities and beyond. Reconnect also organises events and roundtables to raise awareness of issues relating to refugees and global displacement.
Reconnect has been engaged in education projects, primarily focusing on the provision of two high quality innovative teacher training programmes for refugees, through partnerships with the Institute of Education IOE) and Birkbeck. The programmes have enabled 54 unemployed and underemployed refugees (30 men, 24 women) from 20 countries of origin to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Many of these teachers are now teaching in the Post-Compulsory sector in the UK.
Reconnect is committed, but in need of raising required funds to continue providing the much needed support to unemployed and underemployed refugees to enable them to realise their potential.
