About St Uny Church, Lelant
St Uny Church is an active Church of England worshipping community, with a range of worship services, community outreach, and involvement. It is the starting point of St Michael's Way, and the only official British start of the Camino de Santiago. It serves the community of Lelant in as many ways as it can, when compatible with Christian values. It prioritises outreach to the community, showing God’s love by the actions taken and resources offered. It stands in a coastal holiday area, on the South West Coastal Path and has many visitors, some 5500 in 2016, British and overseas. It has many German visitors, as Rosamund Pilcher, whose books are very popular in Germany, and much filmed, some in the church itself, used to live in Lelant. The church is open seven days a week.
There is a linked Church of England school, St Uny Academy, where the church is developing closer links all the
time, which the school are strongly encouraging. We see our church as a resource for the school, for teaching, and for activities
The Church is responsible for Lelant Heritage Centre – an educational centre and museum, formerly a Methodist Chapel used for burials.
We are a popular venue for weddings and baptisms, with 6 or so weddings each year.
