On the 21st of May 2016 we lost a dear friend and colleague, unexpectedly, at the mere age of 20, to cancer, more specifically Hodgkin Lymphoma. I first met Ben at the age of 11 as a young cadet at Bexleyheath Cadet Unit and I had the privilege of seeing him develop and grow in to this confident young man always wanting to help others. It would be unfair to say he grew to be kind and caring as Ben was kind and caring from the outset, always making everyone feel welcome and never having a bad word to say about anyone.
Ben was an active member of St John Ambulance attending many events and courses and helping to run the badgers & cadets, not just at his local youth unit but also those of other areas of which getting to was not always easy, proving his dedication to the youth of organisation, making many friend along the way and inspiring many youngsters and in fact adults and is greatly missed by one and all that knew him.
It is for this reason that on the weekend of the 27th & 28th of May we will be walking from London to Brighton, a staggering 100km. To firstly remember Ben and to secondly raise money for CLIC sergeant, Cancer support for the Young campaign, who provide support to families with young ones affected by cancer and try to increase awareness of cancer within the youth, of which a massive 2,000 cases are diagnosed in those aged between 16 to 24 every year (http://www.clicsargent.org.uk/content/types-cancer).We are completing this challenge as part of team of 2, we have to raise a minimum of £800, this target can be seen on the right.
