We have decided to take on the ultimate challenge to raise vitals funds for a very small but hugely worthwhile charity, and one close to our hearts; Caring Matters Now.
Caring Matters Now is the only UK dedicated charity that supports people affected by Congenital Melanocytic Naevi (CMN), a rare disorder affecting the skin and brain.
CMN is an association of dark brown/black birthmarks (moles) which can cover up to 80% of the body.
CMN are mostly untreatable and carry an increased risk of malignant melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer.
CMN syndrome is the association of these moles with neurological problems including brain tumours, spinal tumours, developmental complications, fluid on the brain and/or characteristic facial features.
Caring Matters Now works in partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital & Institute of Child Health in London, by funding the CMN research. The ultimate aim of the CMN research is to try to develop treatments for CMN, including the neurological complications and the devastating, fatal malignant melanoma.
The funds raised from this challenge will support the work of Caring Matters Now for those affected by CMN and also fund ongoing research project into CMN.
