The challenge

Each team has signed up to take on a fundraising challenge – we’ve given them £50 each to turn into as much money as possible in a 6 month time frame. Not only are the teams doing a fantastic thing in raising much needed funds for Cyril Flint Befrienders, they’re also competing against each other to win a prize at the end of the challenge for the following:

·         Most Funds Raised

·         Most Innovative Fundraising

·         Best Publicity Piece

The charity

Funds raised during the challenge will go to Cyril Flint Befrienders, a charity working to combat social isolation and loneliness in older people by offering a free, one to one befriending service to older people in South Manchester and Trafford areas.

Loneliness has been found to be as harmful to our health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day and is now considered a bigger health epidemic than obesity.

Our volunteers are matched with an older person whom they live near to and whom they have shared interests or hobbies with, to encourage long lasting friendships and indeed we have many successful friendships that have been going since 2013!Having a befriender not only helps reduce a person's loneliness but helps boost their self esteem and confidence and can help the older person integrate into the community again.

With your support, we will be able to continue operating, reaching more lonely and isolated older people and continue to raise awareness about the simple things people can do to help combat this growing issue in our communities.
