It'll soon be time for Telford's first Dark Run 5k! This 5k family Fun Run, is open to all ages and abilities. Dark Run will take place in Telford Town Park, starting and finishing at the Visitor Centre. The Visitor Centre toilets and café facility will be available for the duration of the event and a water station will be provided on the route. Sunset will be at 20:34 that evening and allowing 40-45 minutes for darkness to fall, we anticipate a start time of 21:15.
Participants must bring a torch/head torch! You will be given a glow stick with lanyard, reflective snap-on wristband and even a GLOW IN THE DARK MEDAL as part of your entry fee! Dark Run places will be on a first come, first served basis and are currently limited to 300 participants. All runners/walkers under the age of 16, will be required to stay with a parent/guardian for the duration of the event. The route will be marked with glow sticks and marshalled at all junctions, but please do bring a torch/head torch as the park is VERY dark.
Our website is at www.darkrun5k.weebly.com More details about entry (including fees) will be announced as soon as sponsorship details have been finalised.
We are currently seeking further sponsorship in order for Dark Run to go ahead. We are though extremely proud to announce that Pertemps, GenTech Products Ltd and Oaklands Farm Eggs Ltd are currently sponsoring this event. We are also pleased to announce that Pioneer Medical Solutions are providing medical cover too.
We are currently seeking volunteers, to help at Dark Run. If you are aged 18 and over and can spare a few hours on 16th August, please get in touch. We would be extremely grateful for your help!
So what is the aim of Dark Run?
First and foremost, this is a 'Fun Run' and not a 'Race'. There will be no prizes for first place, or finish times for the event. Our aim is to have fun with friends and family, whilst lighting up the park! Most importantly of all... we want to put light in the lives of the children and their families, at Hope House Children's Hospices. In addition to the entry fee, participants will be asked to try and raise a minimum of £20 in sponsorship for Hope House.
Hope House provide specialist nursing care and support to life-limited children, young people and young adults from Shropshire, Cheshire, North and Mid Wales.
Their support extends to the whole family – from diagnosis, throughout the lifetime of the child and beyond.
