David's London Marathon Adventure

Team photo

2 years ago I weighed 14 stone, drank too much, occasionally smoked (sorry mum) and was fairly unfit. However the death of a close friend changed my perspective on life.

Sandeep was a kind, generous and fun loving guy who dedicated his life to helping others but at the age of 29 was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma.  The bravery he showed through 3 years of treatment including chemotherapy, surgery and a stem cell transplant was inspirational. So much so that after his death I decided to get fit, lose weight and stop binge drinking and smoking.

Now I've decided to take the next step and run a marathon which is a bit daunting given the last time I ran a race it was 5 miles, I was 12 and I barely finished.

However I'm going through the pain for two great charities. The first is the small charity, Charterhouse in Southwark who do great work for underprivileged children in the London borough of Southwark and provded my place in the Marathon. The other is the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity who helped Sandeep through his treatment.

I know many of you will get a number of requests for sponsorship through the year but please give generously not just because I'm absolutely terrified over the prospects of running 26 miles but because I'm doing it for two deserving charities. Also my work has kindly offered to match whatever I raise up to £2000. What more incentive do you need?

Many thanks

David
