Hello, welcome to Enzo's Team page! This page is the umbrella page which amalgamates the total raised in Enzo's name for GOSH. Please donate to one of the fundraising pages listed below.
As some of you will know, our baby boy Enzo, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive type of infant leukaemia. He was diagnosed a week before his 1st birthday, in November 2018.
Enzo is primarily being treated at the brilliant Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). We have been blown away by the exceptional treatment and care we've received and have spent a large chunk of our time there since he was diagnosed.
All the staff have played a huge part in Enzo's treatment. We will never be able to repay our gratitude to all these wonderful people but we can endeavour to raise as much money so other families are fortunate enough to receive the tremendous support and care that we have had so far.
We feel that the best way to do this is to raise some money for research projects that are primarily focussed on helping understand how best to treat some of these cancers that currently have a poor prognosis (including Enzo’s leukaemia).
There have been incredible developments in the treatment of childhood leukaemia with around 80% children surviving- bear in mind that before the 1960s all childhood leukaemia was deemed incurable. However, some blood cancers afflicting infants and children alike have not seen uplifts such as this. For example, survival from infant leukaemia is between 30%-50% and of those infants that go into remission, most will then relapse. Unfortunately, just before Christmas in 2019 we received the terrible news that Enzo had relapsed. He is now due to have a bone marrow transplant. This is an incredibly risky procedure which will have profound short term and long term effects.
We want to do something to help change these dismal outcomes and at GOSH, some of the leading researchers in the world are looking at innovations that will genuinely make a massive difference.
It’s difficult to put into words what it feels like to be told the person you love more than anything else in the world has cancer. Even more so when they are so young, vulnerable and helpless. He’s had to endure so much, an unbelievable amount.
He’s had more than 300 doses of chemotherapy; spent over 200 days and nights in hospital (all in isolation); over 100 home nurse visits; 35 unplanned trips to hospital when at ‘home’; 33 blood and platelet transfusions; 22 general anaesthetics; eyedrops every 2 hours (day and night) for 3 weeks; multiple blood, gut and skin infections; pneumonia; 3 crash teams called- oxygen required and emergency blood transfusions given; liver issues; kidney issues; 14 weeks of high dose steroids; vomiting; constant diarrhea; mucositis; significant weight loss and gain.
We wish that Enzo didn’t have to endure all of this and that survival rates weren’t so horribly low. We want to raise money so other families in the future aren’t faced with all this pain, anguish and can be on a treatment path with more favourable outcomes.
Despite all of this, Enzo has been a joy to be around. He’s genuinely funny, loves playing, loves music, dancing and hide & seek (tricky when in isolation throughout our time in hospital!). He loves football (I think/hope). There have been some terrible lows but sometimes we are able to forget the horror that we’re facing and this is all down to his resilience and love.
The money will go directly to some of the best doctors and scientists in the world to help make this a reality.
Please give what you can.
Love Ant, Rosie and Enzo x
