We are 4 friends who run together as part of the local Jog Scotland group in St Andrews ( STAART ) and on Sunday 23rd April 2017 we will be running 26.2 miles round the streets of London to raise funds for Guide Dogs for the Blind .
We feel very lucky that we can just slip the trainers on at any time day or night and get out the door to go running over the winter months its just a case off fitting the head torch and hitting the streets and local beaches and parks but if we have a problem with our head torch it's just a case of abandoning the run and returning home .
Unfortunately for blind & visually impaired people they do not have this choice and most need support to just to leave the house day or night and we have seen at first hand how guide dogs can really change these people's lives. At present there are over 500 people in the UK who have been assessed as needing a guide dog but due to the high cost of breeding , training , vet care , food etc it comes at a very high cost over £50, 000 on average for each dog during its lifetime and as an organisation Guide Dogs receives no government funding towards these costs so rely on the the generosity of general public to meet these high costs .
Over the last 6 months we have not only been training for the marathon itself we have been holding fundraising events like Discos , Bake sales , raffles , charity auctions , etc to help us reach our £8K target. We have had tremendous support and are very pleased to say we have now raised just over £7K so we are very grateful to everyone that has supported us but PLEASE if you have any spare pounds and would like us to get us over the finishing & fundraising lines please follow the link below or just ask us for our sponsor forms to sign you really will be changing someone's life .
Many Thanks
